The best vocal remover depends on what you want to do with the result. For a quick free split in your browser, vocalremover.org gives you the music and the vocals as two tracks, with no price on the page. To practise along on your phone, Moises splits a song and lets you change its speed and key, with 5 free songs a month. For free stems you can download, Fadr and BandLab Splitter both separate vocals, drums and bass at no cost. For the cleanest paid results and big batches, LALAL.AI sells plans with fast processing and 2 GB uploads. To work offline on your own computer, Ultimate Vocal Remover is free and open source. And to turn a song into a karaoke version on any phone, our own free vocal remover is the one tool here we've timed ourselves.
Key takeaways
- Every tool on this list uses AI separation, which works on almost any song. The old "centre cancel" trick removes bass and drums along with the voice.
- Check what "free" means before you upload: Moises allows 5 songs a month up to 5 minutes, LALAL.AI's free plan gives previews but no downloads, and Fadr's free plan downloads MP3s of songs up to 10 minutes.
- For karaoke you only need 2 stems: music and vocals. Stems for drums, bass or guitar matter if you play an instrument.
- A faint trace of the voice can stay on loud, reverb-heavy notes with any tool. Start from the best-quality file you have.
- Karaoke and practice at home are fine. Publishing or selling someone else's instrumental needs the rights holder's permission.
How we picked
On 26 October 2026 we read each tool's own website, pricing and help pages, and its App Store and Google Play listings, and noted what it does, what it costs and what the free version allows. We ran only our own vocal remover, which we built and timed on real songs. We didn't put the other tools through a listening test, so this page compares what they offer and charge, not how clean each result sounds. Prices are US prices; other countries differ.

1. vocalremover.org: best for a quick free split
vocalremover.org is a browser page: you choose a song, and its AI splits it into a karaoke version with no vocals and an acapella with the vocals alone. The page says processing usually takes about 10 seconds and that the service is free. The same site has a stem splitter, a pitch changer, a key and BPM finder, a cutter and a recorder.
- Cost: free. The page doesn't list a paid plan.
- Watch out: the page doesn't state a file-size or song-length limit, so very long files may not go through.
2. Moises: best for practising along on your phone
Moises is an app for musicians. It splits a song into stems, then lets you mute or solo any part, slow it down, change the key, and see the chords and lyrics. It runs in a browser, on desktop, iPhone, iPad and Android, and has 4.7 stars from about 28,000 ratings on the US App Store and more than 50 million Google Play downloads. Its help pages say the free plan separates into 2 stems (vocals and instrumental) or 4 (vocals, drums, bass and other).
- Cost: the free plan allows 5 uploads a month, each up to 5 minutes, and deleting a song doesn't give the slot back. Premium is $5.99 a month or $39.99 a year on the US App Store, with songs up to 20 minutes and no upload limit; Pro is $29.99 a month.
- Watch out: chords, lyrics and the smart metronome cover only the first minute of a song on the free plan.
3. Fadr: best for free stems you can download
Fadr's free Basic plan splits a song into vocals, melodies, drums and bass, with MP3 downloads, MIDI detection and a remix maker. Fadr Plus adds lead and backing vocals as separate stems, piano, guitar, strings and drum parts, lossless WAV downloads, uploads up to an hour and DAW plugins.
- Cost: free; Plus is $10 a month or $100 a year.
- Watch out: uploads on the free plan are limited to 10 minutes, and its downloads are MP3, not WAV.
4. BandLab Splitter: best for free stems plus speed and key
BandLab Splitter is part of BandLab, the free music-making app. It splits a song into vocals, drums, bass and other instruments, and you can solo or mute each part, change the speed and key, loop a section, download the stems as audio or MIDI, or open them in BandLab's studio. It works on the web and in the BandLab app, which has more than 100 million Google Play downloads and 4.7 stars from about 511,000 ratings on the US App Store.
- Cost: free. Guitar separation needs a BandLab Membership, $14.99 a month on the US App Store.
- Watch out: the Android app shows ads.
5. LALAL.AI: best for paid quality and big batches
LALAL.AI separates vocals and instruments, and also splits lead from backing vocals and removes echo and reverb. It runs in a browser and has apps for iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux, plus a VST plugin and an API on Pro. Paid plans add a fast queue, batch processing and 2 GB uploads.
- Cost: the free Starter plan gives 10 minutes of processing with previews only. Lite is $90 a year with 90 fast minutes a month and downloads; Pro is $180 a year with 250 fast minutes, and was $126 for the first year in its October 2026 sale. The iPhone app also sells 25 minutes for $4.99 and 90 for $14.99.
- Watch out: you can't download anything on the free plan, and its Android app has 3.0 stars on Google Play.
6. Ultimate Vocal Remover: best offline, on your own computer
Ultimate Vocal Remover (UVR) is a free, open-source desktop program for Windows, Mac and Linux, under the MIT licence. It runs the separation on your own computer, so your files never leave it, and it lets you choose between many separation models. The latest full release is v5.6 from September 2023, and newer beta builds add RoFormer models; the project was still being updated in October 2026.
- Cost: free. Donations are optional.
- Watch out: it's a desktop program with many settings, not a one-tap app, and how fast it runs depends on your computer.
Our vocal remover: the one we tested
Our free vocal remover runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, made by the same AI as our paid studio. Choose an MP3, M4A, WAV or video file, make a free account and press Remove the voice: you get the music only, your karaoke version, and the vocals only, which you can listen to as often as you like. A free account splits 3 songs a day, up to 10 minutes each; downloading needs a plan, and your results are deleted after 3 days.
When we timed it on real songs in October 2026, a 3 minute 45 second song was ready 132 seconds after upload, and a 3 minute 20 second song 141 seconds after. So "about 2 minutes" is what to expect, slower than the 10 seconds vocalremover.org quotes. If you want the voice and nothing else, use vocals only; to sing over the music in a key that suits you, use the karaoke maker. For the step-by-step on every device, read how to remove vocals from a song.
Then hear the song in your own voice
A karaoke version gives you the music. Tera Studio goes one step further and sings the whole song in your voice: record about a minute of your normal singing (2 minutes sounds more like you), upload the original song, and hear it in your voice, on the original singer's notes and phrasing. See how to make a karaoke version of any song in your own voice.
Current price and limits

Frequently asked questions
What is the best free vocal remover? For a quick split in the browser, vocalremover.org. To download separate stems at no cost, Fadr (MP3, songs up to 10 minutes) or BandLab Splitter. To work offline, Ultimate Vocal Remover. Our vocal remover is free for 3 songs a day with a free account, with free listening.
What is the best vocal remover app? Moises, if you want to practise along: it changes speed and key and shows chords. BandLab is free and has the most downloads. LALAL.AI has apps on every platform if you'll pay for the best separation.
Which vocal remover gives the best quality? We only timed our own, so we can't rank the others by sound. Is it legal to use a vocal remover? Making a karaoke track for your own practice or a private party is how most people use one. Uploading, streaming or selling the instrumental of someone else's song needs permission from whoever owns the recording.
