A birthday song in your own voice is a gift that only you can give. You choose the song, record a couple of minutes of yourself singing, and Tera Studio makes the song sound like you sang it. You do not need to be a good singer: the melody and timing come from the original performance, and your recording supplies the voice.
Key takeaways
- No song file? Tera Studio includes a licensed birthday song you can use straight away.
- Record about 2 minutes of yourself singing, somewhere quiet, without music playing.
- Make it at least a day early. Your first song takes longer because your voice is prepared first.
- Send the song, or a free 15-second clip for WhatsApp Status.
Step 1 — Pick the song
The best birthday songs for this have one clear lead singer from start to finish. Duets, choirs and songs where several people sing at once are harder to convert cleanly, because the original voices overlap.
You have two choices:
- The built-in birthday song. Under the upload box in the song step, choose No song file? Use one of ours. It is "It's Your Birthday!" by Monk Turner + Fascinoma, licensed CC BY 3.0, so you can share it as long as you keep the artists' credit.
- Your own file. Any song file on your phone or computer, up to 10 minutes long. Use a song you have permission to transform. A song the two of you love says more than a generic birthday tune.
If the song sits too high or too low for your voice, try our free key changer on the original first, or check your range with the vocal range test.
Step 2 — Record your voice
Your recording teaches Tera Studio what you sound like. A good one makes the biggest difference to the result.
- Sing for about 2 minutes. Anything you know by heart works; it does not need to be the birthday song.
- Use a quiet room. Turn off fans and the TV, and do not play music while you record.
- Hold the phone about a hand's width from your mouth, a little to the side.
- Sing at a normal, comfortable volume. Shouting and whispering both make the voice less recognisable.
The recorder shows a timer and a ring that fills to 2 minutes, and you can pause and carry on.
Step 3 — Start it, then leave it
Press start. Your first song takes longer because Tera Studio prepares your personal voice before it makes the song. The project page shows each stage, and you can close the page and come back; the song is saved to My songs. Your next song reuses your voice and is quicker.
Plan for this: make the song the day before the birthday, not five minutes before the cake.
Step 4 — Listen honestly
Play it through headphones and through a phone speaker. Check that the words are clear and that it sounds like you. If something is off, tap Needs work under the player and choose what is wrong. A song marked Needs work can be remade free from a new, longer recording, and your first version stays until the new one is ready.
Step 5 — Send it
Free songs play with a soft chime and can be shared as a free 15-second clip of the best part, sized for WhatsApp Status and Instagram. To send the full song as a clean file, download it with a plan (see below). If you used the built-in song, keep the artists' credit when you share it.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be able to sing? No. The tune and timing come from the original singer. Your recording only needs to sound like your normal voice, so sing comfortably rather than trying to impress.
Can I make it in Hindi or another Indian language? Yes. Use a song in that language. The words and pronunciation come from the original singer, so pick a performance with clear words.
How long should the birthday song be? A free preview can be a whole song up to 4 minutes. For a WhatsApp gift, a single verse and chorus of 1–2 minutes is often enough.
Can I put a message in it? Add a short note on the song card when you download the song-card video. Speaking a message inside the song itself is not part of the guided flow.
Is my voice private? Yes. Your voice is linked to your account and used for your songs. Read our privacy policy for details.
