If you can’t sing, you can still hear your voice sing a song well. Tera Studio keeps a real singer’s performance (the notes, the timing, the breaths) and changes the voice in it to yours. You record a couple of minutes of your normal voice; you never have to hit the high note yourself.

Key takeaways

  • The melody comes from the original singer, so being off-key yourself doesn’t matter.
  • Your recording only has to sound like you: clear, relaxed and in a quiet room.
  • It works best on songs with one clear lead singer.
  • It can’t make the result sound like you if your recording is noisy, whispered or mixed with music.

How it works, in plain words

A song has two parts that matter here: what is sung (the notes, words and rhythm) and who sings it (the sound of the voice). Voice conversion swaps the second part.

  1. The song is split into the singing and the music.
  2. A private model of your voice is made from your recording.
  3. The singing is re-voiced with your voice, following the original notes exactly.
  4. Your new vocal goes back on top of the music.

That is why pitch is not your problem: the notes in the result are the original singer’s notes. Curious how in tune you really are? The free singing test plays five notes and scores how close you get, and nothing is recorded.

What it can’t do

Being honest about limits saves you a disappointing first try:

  • It can’t invent a voice from a bad recording. Background music, a TV, echo or a fan in your recording ends up in your voice model.
  • It follows the original performance. If the original singer slurs a word, your version slurs it too. Choose a performance with clear words.
  • Very different ranges are harder. A deep voice on a very high song (or the reverse) can sound strained. Our free key changer can move a song closer to your range first, and the vocal range test shows where your voice sits.
  • Crowds and duets blur. Songs where several people sing at once convert less cleanly than a single lead.

How to record yourself well (2 minutes)

You do not need to sing well in your recording. You need to sound like yourself.

  • Sing or hum something you know, for about 2 minutes.
  • Use a quiet room, phone a hand’s width away, normal volume.
  • Include some low and some higher (comfortable) notes, and some long vowels like “aah”.
  • Do not play the song through a speaker while you record.

Choosing your first song

Start with a song you know well, sung by one singer, without long instrumental sections. You know how it should sound, so you can judge your version properly. No file handy? There is a licensed birthday song built in, under the upload box.

If it doesn’t sound like you

Tap Needs work under the player and pick what’s wrong (for example Doesn’t sound like me or I can hear the original singer). A song marked Needs work can be remade free from a new, longer recording. Your first version stays until the new one is ready.

Frequently asked questions

Will people know it’s AI? Sometimes. Results vary with the song and your recording, and a careful listener may hear artefacts. When you share it, say that the voice was changed with AI.

Can it make me a better singer for real? No. It produces a recording; it does not train your voice. Many people do find it motivating to hear what they could sound like.

Can I use a famous singer’s voice instead? No. Tera Studio makes songs in your own voice only. You record yourself, and your voice stays private to your account.

What languages work? The words come from the original song, so any language with a clear lead vocal can work, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu.
